I have just added TwitterGadget to my Gmail interface.
TwitterGadget is completely AJAX based. As it mentioned in the official site, it enables the user to toggle on/off various display elements such as user thumbnails, timestamps, and post sources. Refresh intervals can be set from

3 to 30 minutes or done manually.

As you can see, it’s a pretty simple box which sends your Tweets and updates you with your followers’ Tweets every 3, 5, 10, 15 or 30 minutes.
As you can see from the picture, there are various tabs where you can see your favorites (F), your replies (R), your direct messages (D), all Tweets (A) and H takes you to the Tweets on the Twitter home page.
There are also three tabs of emoticons which you can access by clicking on the small down arrow.

How to install it into Gmail?
Enter the Gmail Lab and Enable the "Add any gadget by URL" feature (if it was not already done):

Now you can see that Gadgets are added to your Gmail Settings. So just add the following URL http://www.twittergadget.com/gadget_gmail.xml as following:

The gadget is now added to your Gadgets list:

And you can use it from the left sidebar on your Gmail:

Enjoy!
